Vet News: Army Announces Force Structure and Stationing Decisions

The Department of the Army announced today force structure decisions and stationing plans for the reduction of the regular Army from 490,000 to 450,000 soldiers. The reduction of force structure will occur in fiscal years 2016 and 2017; the reduction of 40,000 end strength will be completed by the end of fiscal year 2018, and will be accompanied by the reduction of 17,000 Department of the Army civilian employees. These cuts will impact nearly every Army installation, both in the continental United States and overseas.

Vet News: DOD Announces Decision to Disinter USS Oklahoma Unaccounted For Service Members

The Department of Defense (DoD) announced today that the remains of up to 388 unaccounted for sailors and Marines, associated with the USS Oklahoma, will be exhumed later this year. Upon disinterment, the remains will be transferred to the Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency (DPAA) laboratory in Hawaii for examination. Analysis of all available evidence indicates that most USS Oklahoma crew members can be identified upon disinterment.

Vet News: National Guard (In Federal Status) and Reserve Activated as of March 31, 2015

The Department of Defense announced an increase in activated National Guard and reserve component members this week for the Marine Corps Reserve, Air National Guard and Air Force Reserve, while the Army National Guard, Army Reserve, and Navy Reserve announced a decrease of activated members. Coast Guard Reserve numbers did not change from last week. The net collective result is a decrease of 87 activated National Guard and reserve component members in comparison to last week.

The Marine Corps Reserve announced an increase activated National Guard members and reservists this week, while the Army National Guard, Army Reserve, Navy Reserve, Air National Guard, and Air Force Reserve announced a decrease of activated National Guard members and reservists. Coast Guard Reserve numbers did not change from last week. The net collective result is a decrease of 808 activated National Guard members and reservists in comparison to last week.
