Congratulations to Emily Cohen, who will receive a $1,000 scholarship to be used toward her undergraduate studies. Emily was chosen to receive this award based on her academic honors, leadership and participation in school, and community activities.
Emily, the daughter of Linda Haechler, a Veterans Advantage member from Chico, California, graduated from Petaluma High School in Petaluma, California. She attends California State University: Chico in Chico, California, where she is double majoring in Political Science and International Relations, hoping to attend law school and then work for the United Nations. Very active in college, Emily is a member of the National Honor Society, the Dean’s List and the Political Science Honor Society as well as an officer for SCU: Chico’s Model United Nations team, where she has won three awards with the team. She has taught remedial English to freshmen students and has tutored at the Writing Center. Her athletic interests are mountain biking and cycling.
“I want to send you a most sincere thank you for recognizing me and awarding me the $1,000 scholarship,” Ms. Cohen said when learning of the scholarship. “It is both a humbling and comforting feeling to know that there are people out there who are willing to recognize and support students, and help individuals get through college.”
One of my dreams is to be able to study in Europe for a semester, and this spring I am going to try to make this happen. I have been saving every penny possible so that I can achieve this goal, and the scholarship that you have awarded me will help me very much to accomplish this. For that, and simply recognizing me in such a wonderful and generous way, I am very grateful.”
Best of luck to Emily in her college career!
