Scott’s View: Women’s History Month & the Coronavirus Anniversary

Scott

We hope you enjoy this week’s HeroVet in recognition of Women’s History Month. The remarkable story about the Navy’s Julia Parsons, who just turned 100, is about the humility women like Julia had to demonstrate while serving our country during World War II. She served as a code-breaker, and no doubt saved countless American lives. But her role was top secret for 50 years. Today, we want to give her a long-overdue “thank you” for her tremendous service to our country.

Speaking of calendars - as you’ll probably recall, it was one year ago this week that our nation and the world shut down because of the coronavirus pandemic. I remember it well because I was at the New York Athletic Club for a fundraiser organized by the United States Veterans Chamber of Commerce (USVCC), where I serve as a board member, and the NFL Hall of Fame to benefit the Invictus Games and the Warrior Games.  Little did we know that the world would change the next day.

As our nation begins to see the first glimmers of hope that we are putting the pandemic behind us, many of us are looking forward to traveling again. Thanks to the worldwide rollouts of the vaccine, we’re seeing a lot of interest in our travel exclusives. JetBlue Airways and Wyndham Hotels & Resorts are longtime partners, but there are many more to choose from, ranging from our exclusives with major airlines, hotels & resorts, and car rentals. So, be sure to check them out at our Military Discounts Marketplace.

Cover Story: How & Why WeSalute Was Founded 25 Years Ago

WeSalute founders Scott and Lin Higgins have spent a lifetime in the military community, from Scott’s combat service in Vietnam and the service of Lin’s father in WWII, to serving families and veterans through the creation of memorials and parades as part of charitable and government initiatives. It was this lifetime of service that led them to establish WeSalute, originally founded as Veterans Advantage, and to continue giving back.
