Veterans Advantage Honors Medal of Honor Recipients and Their Spouses with Benefit Coverage Gift

Medal of Honor and WeSalute (Veterans Advantage)

Mt. Pleasant, SC, June 29, 2016

Veterans Advantage, a public benefit corporation, announced the expansion of its program to honor all Congressional Medal of Honor recipients with the inclusion of their spouses and widows in its VetRewards gift plan program.

“Veterans Advantage is honored to recognize these heroes and spouses with important new benefits,as our special gift,” said Scott Higgins, CEO of Veterans Advantage and a Vietnam veteran. “They represent the ideals of freedom our country was founded on, and deserve all we can give to them,” he added.

Veterans Advantage co-founders Scott and Lin Higgins visited the annual Medal of Honor Convention in Boston last year, where they first presented lifetime Veterans Advantage member plans to Medal of Honor recipients.Alongside them was Veterans Advantage Advisory Board member Paul Bucha, a Medal of Honor recipient and past president of the Congressional Medal of Honor Society, who will now be coordinating on the expansion of these additional new benefits.

The VetRewards Card gifts from Veterans Advantage provide all CMOH recipients, and their spouses, access to the program’s exclusive, nationwide discounts with brand-name companies and travel providers. They will also be covered under a group travel insurance policy that protects all those enrolled with Veterans Advantage.

In fact, it was Bucha himself who first realized how beneficial such a gift would be, and hailed the $50,000 in MedEvac coverage every member receives as extremely critical for MOH recipients.

“Medal of Honor recipients go to events all over the country, but a lot of the aging recipients are reluctant to travel because of concern with medical issues. But now, thanks to Veterans Advantage’s generous gifting program, they can travel with the peace of mind that the VetRewards Card brings,” said Bucha.

“These new gifts for spouses and widows is a fitting way to recognize their service in these extraordinary American families,” said Lin Higgins, COO of Veterans Advantage, and the daughter of a World War II Marine. “We are honored to call them members.”

Veterans Advantage – Gifting Programs
Veterans Advantage's Gifting programs are part of its mission as a registered public benefit corporation ("PBC") to advocate for greater respect, recognition, and rewards for those who serve the nation. To date, with member support, Veterans Advantage has delivered over a half million free VetRewards Cards and its associated benefits to active duty service personnel, wounded warriors and their caregivers, student veterans, and as gifts to honor special groups of veterans.

To reach new recipients of the veteran-led and supported benefit programs, Veterans Advantage works through its 501c3 partnerships, institutions of higher learning and government organizations, such as the Congressional Medal of Honor Society, Operation Gratitude and Operation Care and Comfort, the City University of New York and Syracuse University, the City of New York through the IDNYC card with Veteran Designation, Department of Veterans Affairs of the State of Connecticut, and – just last month– the U.S. Invictus Games 2016 Team.

Cover Story: How & Why WeSalute Was Founded 25 Years Ago

WeSalute founders Scott and Lin Higgins have spent a lifetime in the military community, from Scott’s combat service in Vietnam and the service of Lin’s father in WWII, to serving families and veterans through the creation of memorials and parades as part of charitable and government initiatives. It was this lifetime of service that led them to establish WeSalute, originally founded as Veterans Advantage, and to continue giving back.
