Scott's View: Remember the Medal of Honor

Scott

This week’s “National Medal of Honor Day” was created to “foster public appreciation and recognition of Medal of Honor Recipients.” As a board member of the Congressional Medal of Honor Foundation, this day holds special meaning for me. It is our nation’s highest military honor and represents the six values of courage, sacrifice, patriotism, citizenship, integrity, and commitment. David Semour, a West Point graduate, Army veteran, chief operating officer of American Airlines and a partner of Veterans Advantage, leads the Foundation as its Chairman.

An important Veterans Advantage board member, Paul “Buddy” Bucha, who has been with us for our 20+ year history, is one of only 69 living recipients today recognized for his heroism while serving in Vietnam. Thank you, Bud for your service!

President Abraham Lincoln started the Medal of Honor in 1862 to recognize the heroes of the Civil War. It continues to be awarded today by the President of the United States for valor in action. We should always keep these great Americans in our hearts, as they represent the very best among us. The official National Medal of Honor Day falls each year on March 25, but is an everyday calling for Veterans Advantage.

In the storied annals of military history, there are tales that transcend time, serving as reminders of the indomitable spirit and unwavering courage of those who wear the uniform. One such narrative unfolded in the streets of Mogadishu, Somalia, where Retired U.S. Army Maj. Larry Moores etched his name into the annals of valor, culminating in a long-overdue recognition with the Silver Star Medal.

Cover Story: How & Why WeSalute Was Founded 25 Years Ago

WeSalute founders Scott and Lin Higgins have spent a lifetime in the military community, from Scott’s combat service in Vietnam and the service of Lin’s father in WWII, to serving families and veterans through the creation of memorials and parades as part of charitable and government initiatives. It was this lifetime of service that led them to establish WeSalute, originally founded as Veterans Advantage, and to continue giving back.
