On October 7, 2001, our nation responded to the 9/11 attacks. Operation Enduring Freedom started with the invasion of Afghanistan. Known as Operation Freedom's Sentinel since 2015, it is the longest war in US history.
So many precious lives of American servicemen and women were lost in what some refer to as the “endless war.” As we enter its 20th year, we pause to remember those who never made it back home, and honor their service and sacrifice on behalf of our country.
Pat Tillman was one of the first high-profile casualties of the war. A football star with Arizona State University and the Arizona Cardinals, he put aside a bright future in sports to serve his country. Like so many before and after him, he raised his right hand, risked his life doing so and paid the ultimate price. We honor Pat as a HeroVet (please read his profile) and applaud the work of the Pat Tillman Foundation in memory of one of America’s great heroes.
