Scott's View: February is Black History Month

I’m honored and privileged to serve as a member of the Board of Trustees of the Medal of Honor Foundation. I’m proud to support the work and values of an extraordinary group of Americans, the Medal of Honor Society and its 69 living recipients.

There are only three living African American recipients. As part of Black History Month, we honor and recognize one of them, Melvin Morris, as our HeroVet. Lin and I have met the very personable Melvin and his delightful spouse at various Society and Foundation activities. I think you’ll enjoy reading his personal story as much as I have. Thank you Melvin for your incredible service to our country!

Veterans Advantage’s 20th Anniversary Honoring You

Twenty years ago this weekend, our first member joined Veterans Advantage. We were surprised to see a young Navy seaman signing up at 2:30 a.m. from his berth on a nuclear submarine. He wanted his VetRewards savings ASAP!

We launched before 9/11. Our early days as an internet company were challenging, to put it mildly, as the country engaged in two wars and experienced three major recessions in the years that followed. But our mission to generate greater respect, recognition and rewards for those who serve and their families was solid and now has withstood the test of time. Veterans Advantage has grown into something we are immensely proud of.

On behalf of the whole team at Veterans Advantage, thank you for your service to our country and for supporting us over the years. We’re looking forward to serving you for another 20 years -- and more!

Stay safe and healthy.

In the storied annals of military history, there are tales that transcend time, serving as reminders of the indomitable spirit and unwavering courage of those who wear the uniform. One such narrative unfolded in the streets of Mogadishu, Somalia, where Retired U.S. Army Maj. Larry Moores etched his name into the annals of valor, culminating in a long-overdue recognition with the Silver Star Medal.

Cover Story: How & Why WeSalute Was Founded 25 Years Ago

WeSalute founders Scott and Lin Higgins have spent a lifetime in the military community, from Scott’s combat service in Vietnam and the service of Lin’s father in WWII, to serving families and veterans through the creation of memorials and parades as part of charitable and government initiatives. It was this lifetime of service that led them to establish WeSalute, originally founded as Veterans Advantage, and to continue giving back.
