Veterans Advantage Remembers HeroVet Louis Zamperini with Advanced Screening of "Unbroken"

Unbroken

Veterans Advantage HeroVet awards are bestowed on Veterans who, having given service in our military, distinguish themselves by their continued contributions to society. HeroVets best represent honor and value of service to our country. Louis Zamperini fits this description completely and we honored him with this award in 2011. While Louis passed away this past year, the story of his early years in the military comes to life on Christmas day in the new movie, "Unbroken".

With the help of our Advisory Board Gerry Byrne and Universal Pictures, Veterans Advantage hosted an advance screening of "Unbroken," on the Intrepid museum earlier this week. It is a riveting and inspirational movie of Zamperini's upbringing in Southern California and his harrowing WWII experiences in the Pacific, as directed by Angelina Jolie. Based on the original book by Laura Hillenbrand, it is a story of survival, resilience, and redemption that everyone should see. Its scheduled nationwide release is December 25.

When Hollywood releases important films such as this one, we try to arrange private screenings for members as a benefit of membership and in recognition of service to the country. Last year we hosted "Lone Survivor," another true-life story through the eyes of Navy SEAL Marcus Luttrell, played by Mark Wahlberg.

Best wishes to you and your family over this holiday season from all of us at Veterans Advantage. Here's to a great 2015, and more benefits for those who serve and their families!

Cover Story: How & Why WeSalute Was Founded 25 Years Ago

WeSalute founders Scott and Lin Higgins have spent a lifetime in the military community, from Scott’s combat service in Vietnam and the service of Lin’s father in WWII, to serving families and veterans through the creation of memorials and parades as part of charitable and government initiatives. It was this lifetime of service that led them to establish WeSalute, originally founded as Veterans Advantage, and to continue giving back.
