Welcome
to Veterans Advantage:
Why
We Are Here to Serve You

There
are an estimated 26 million Veterans in the United States. Most Americans,
mistakenly, believe that all Veterans are rewarded for
their service with great benefits provided through federal
entitlements or that most Veterans belong to Veterans
Service Organizations, which also can provide them with
benefits.
However, this is far from reality.
Most federal and state benefits are only for war-related
disabilities, have certain minimum disability criteria
that must be met for eligibility, or are provided as
"safety net" for the most financially needy
Veterans. There are few benefits or advantages provided
for all who have given service to our country. And,
even if you are eligible for federal entitlements,
they are often difficult to obtain, and require a long,
lengthy, and cumbersome process to verify and receive.
Currently, only 10% of veterans receive, or are entitled,
to receive federal benefits.
In addition, for various reasons, 80% of Veterans do
not belong to a Veterans Service Organizations. In
some cases, VSO's have federal charters that define
or restrict their membership, so not all Veterans can
join. For instance, you must have served during a period
of conflict to be a member of the American Legion,
and, in the case of the VFW, a foreign war. If the
Legion or VFW lets the 6 million "peacetime" Veterans
join, or our National Guard, (which serves only within
our boarders) they risk losing their federal charter
and the valuable tax-exempt status it offers. Yet,
Congress has chartered most VSO's so that Veterans
and their families can help other Veterans. They need
our support.
Veterans Advantage recognizes all federally chartered
Veteran Service Organizations, for the many important
functions and services they provide to our country,
and for their work on behalf of our nation's Veterans.
The American Legion and VFW, as well as many smaller
VSO's, have fine local organizations that meet the need
for support and camaraderie among those who seek it.
They also organize and support many important volunteer
initiatives, to help the Veterans in the communities
in which they reside.
On the national level, most of our VSO's lobby for legislative
support of our country's Veterans. Veterans Advantage
provides Veterans and their families, who belong to
any federally chartered VSO, with a 15% discount on
the Veterans Advantage Card Program fees, which they
may receive as thanks from Veterans Advantage for their
participation in, and support, of our VSO's.
