Chuck Widger named "TopVet" for military service, commitment to excellence in education and industry.
Veterans Advantage Inc., a nationwide membership program providing new service benefits for U.S. Veterans, National Guard, Reservists, active duty military and their families, announced that Chuck Widger, CEO of Brinker Capital, has been named a "TopVet," an honor that appears on www.Veteransadvantage.com.
Widger is recognized for his commitment to public service and higher education, represented most recently by his leadership appointment as Chairman of the Board at Gettysburg College, as well as his industry experience founding and managing leading financial institutions. The former Navy officer served on the USS McDonough guided missile destroyer in key theatres of operation during the height of the Cold War.
As Widger says on his biography on the Veterans Advantage’s Web site, ever since his days on the McDonough, he’s had a long-term vision of making a difference for others. "When I was aboard ship, I told myself it would be a great experience to learn about practical leadership and administrative skills. I believed then," he said, "that I wouldn’t really feel the benefits immediately but rather when I reached my 40s." Which has been, he said, "absolutely true."
"I have had the privilege of knowing Chuck Widger for over 30 years," said Scott Higgins, CEO of Veterans Advantage. "He’s an American success story. And a stand-up guy," said Higgins.
Widger has demonstrated leadership and accomplishments in business development and finance, currently as President and Chief Executive of Brinker Capital. From a venture which began in 1991 with a piece of paper and a few dedicated investors, Widger and his associates grew Brinker Capital to the managed accounts industry leaderit is today. Brinker began with eight people and $133 million in assets. Providing investment planning for a variety of institutional and individual clients, Brinker now employs 85 people managing $3 billion in assets.
