James E. Sowell/Builder

When James E. Sowell returned home after a two-year hitch in the Army, he started the Jim Sowell Construction Company, which is now one of the largest subdivision developers in the state of Texas.

Mr. Sowell graduated from Texas Tech University in 1970 with a BBA in finance. Mr. Sowell has served on the Board of Directors of several New York Stock Exchange companies, including NL Industries, Todd Shipyards Corporation, Lomas and Nettleton Corporation, and Ketchum Drug Company.

He is currently a member of the Advisory Committee for the Byron Nelson Golf Excellence Fund and the Boy Scout Foundation Board of Trustees, president of the Boy Scouts of America-Circle Ten Council, and chairman of the Board of Regents for Texas Tech University and Texas Tech University Medical School.

Dance about Vietnam War Gets Washington Post Coverage

I was pleased to see the Washington Post reviewed Into Sunlight, the dance based on the book by David Maraniss, the Pulitzer-prize winning journalist. It is a special look at a series of events surrounding the Vietnam War, and we have been honored to sponsor this very important work of art, and host Veterans Advantage Members to see the production in New York City and Washington DC.
