Amtrak In 2004 Update

Amtrak Honors Veterans With Weekend Acela Express & Metroliner Discounts

Amtrak Honors Veterans With Weekend Acela Express & Metroliner Discounts

Veterans Advantage is happy to announce an enhancement to our travel benefits package. Amtrak—proud supporter of our members since our company’s inception—is pleased to offer a new offer to our Everyday Savings program: Acela service discounts are now available on the weekends.

Get 15% off WEEKEND ONLY travel on Acela Express & Metroliner Trains.

For Veterans Only: Amtrak has added two additional trains as eligible for the Veterans Advantage 15% Everyday Savings. Veterans can now get 15% OFF the rail fare on Acela Express high-speed rail travel and travel on Metroliners in the Northeast corridor during weekends (Sat. & Sun. only.) As before, Acela Regional trains are eligible for 15% Everyday Savings everyday of the week with no blackout days. Please note: Acela Express has only business and first class seating; however, first class accommodation charges are not eligible for this discount.

How much could you save? For instance, we did a search on Acela Express round-trip business class travel between Boston to Washington for late January 2004 travel*. Using your Veterans Advantage card, here's the savings breakout:

Full Adult Acela Express: $ 306.00

Veterans Advantage Fare: $ 260.10

YOU SAVE: $ 45.90!

*Your own search may show different prices

Take the train over the plane. A comparison price check for the same route via plane showed a fare $528 for US Airways, so with your Veterans Advantage fare, you save $268 over the plane and may even save time. While your "scheduled" travel time may be a little longer on the train, you depart and arrive in downtown areas, so you don't spend time going to and from the airport and avoid airport hassles and delays. As added benefits, you can purchase food onboard, and you can plug your laptop or use your cell phone—you stay productive while you travel!

Other 2004 Changes: The Veterans Advantage Auto Train discount has been switched from 10% off the vehicle fare portion to 15% off the rail fare portion of the AutoTrain ticket. Your Veterans Advantage discount now gets you 15% Everyday Savings on the rail fare portion only of your travel (excludes the accommodation fare and vehicle fare portions). Note: senior discounts are not available on the AutoTrain, only Veterans.

To access Veterans Advantage fares, book online with your 10 digit Travel Discount Code and select "Veterans Advantage" as your fare type--no special discount code is required—and your 15% Everyday Savings will be applied to your reservation. (Reminder: DO NOT use your Veterans Advantage Card member id in the online reservation form, only enter your 10-digit Travel Discount Code from the lower right hand corner of your card).

Please stay tuned for future updates! We will keep you informed via email of the status of 2004 benefits from Amtrak, including the much-anticipated return of 50% OFF to honor our nation's Veterans. Call Amtrak for travel details and reservations at 1-877-872-7245 or go to www.amtrak.com today.
