Memorial Day Wishes from Veterans Advantage

Sunday, May 27th, 2012

This Memorial Day, we honor the service and sacrifice of our military veterans. We recognize and acknowledge those who have died in the service of their country and defense of our liberties. The words of Lee Greenwood ring particularly true on this commemorative day:

“And I’m proud to be an American
Where at least I know I’m free
And I won’t forget the men who died,
Who gave that right to me.”

In a tribute to our Vietnam Veterans, we have profiled Col. Forrest Newton, one of the last few remaining Active Duty military members who saw action in Vietnam. I met Col Newton at a recent Vietnam Recognition Day event in New York City, where we shared the podium as keynote speakers. He is a man of honor and integrity, and we salute him on his final mission to remember his fellow brothers and sisters, as part of the DoD’s yearlong tribute to mark the 50th Anniversary of the beginning of the Vietnam War.

Please join us in the National Moment of Remembrance of our fellow Veterans, Memorial Day, at 3pm your local time. You can also post your message of gratitude on our Facebook page today, and help us all live in the spirit of our wonderful nation.

Thank you for your service and for the privilege of serving you through the Veterans Advantage program.

Veterans Advantage Salutes Syracuse University Veterans

Tuesday, May 22nd, 2012

We at Veterans Advantage are pleased to announce our latest way of thanking those who served. Through a first-of-its-kind partnership, Syracuse University Active Duty and Veterans are now eligible for complimentary Veterans Advantage VetReward Card memberships. This campuswide veteran initiative covers students, faculty and staff who are serving or already served.

Under the pioneering vision of Mike Haynie, Barnes Professor of Entrepreneurship at the Whitman School — and a U.S. Air Force veteran — SU is serving as a national model program, which Veterans Advantage hopes to extend to other universities in the near future.

“It is a valuable gift that sends an important message that the University cares and honors its veteran students with real and unique benefits as a thank you for their service,” says Vietnam Veteran Paul W. Bucha, a Medal of Honor recipient and Veterans Advantage Advisory Board member, who assisted me in bringing these complimentary memberships to Syracuse University.

Veterans Advantage Encourages You to Attend Give an Hour’s Inaugural Gala

Sunday, May 13th, 2012

If you expect to be in the Washington, DC area this coming May 23, I want to encourage you to attend the Inaugural Gala for our loyal charitable partner, Give an Hour. Founded by a good friend of our company, Dr. Barbara Van Dahlen, this 501c3 is deploying complimentary mental health services to those who served their country and their families.

As her organization reports on its website, over 2 million troops have been deployed in Afghanistan, Iraq, and the Persian Gulf since September 11, 2001, and nearly 550,000 of these troops have been deployed more than once. When you include all the families impacted by these life-changing circumstances you have a staggering multiplier on the wellbeing of so many very patriotic Americans.

Her efforts continue to get attention. In addition to Van Dahlen recently being named by Time Magazine as one of the 100 Most Influential People in the World, her organization was one of the five winners of the White House’s Joining Forces Community Challenge, aiming to educate, challenge, and spark action from all sectors of our society to ensure military families have the support they have earned.

Barbara has been a contributing editor to Veterans Advantage for several years, and our relationship to support and do outreach for Give an Hour dates back to 2008. Join us in our ongoing support of Give an Hour, by clicking here for more information on attending the gala – or even sponsor a complimentary ticket for a very worthy veteran or Active Duty service member.
