Veterans Advantage Participates at NASDVA State Department of Veterans Affairs Conference

Friday, September 30th, 2011

We were glad to participate at the recent 65th Annual Conference of the National Association of State Directors of Veterans Affairs (NASDVA) last weekend in Lincoln City, Oregon.

Through our sponsorship of the event, Veterans Advantage hosted a breakfast, and briefed state representatives about the Veterans Advantage benefits program. The guest speaker was Veterans Advantage Advisory Board member Paul W. Bucha, Army Veteran and Medal of Honor recipient, who spoke about the importance of supporting all who serve, particularly through hiring Military Veterans.

The State of Oregon hosted the event, thanks in large part to Jim Willis, the Director of Oregon Department of Veterans Affairs, and NASDVA President Dr. Linda Schwartz. Dr. Schwartz has served as Commissioner of The Connecticut Department of Veterans’ Affairs since 2003.

Everyone at NASDVA is doing a terrific job, and we encourage all Veterans to keep in touch with their state Veterans Affairs representatives. The better you keep informed, the better life will be for all Veterans.

Veterans Advantage Field Reports and Reviews: Members Speak Out On Facebook

Sunday, September 25th, 2011

Our newly launched Veterans Advantage Facebook page, which just debuted earlier this year, continues to gather positive feedback about usage from a range of our benefit partners. A recent sampling includes travel discounts such as Amtrak, Foot Locker, Entertainment Tickets, our Prescription drug discount program and Sirius XM Satellite Radio:

  • “Just wanted to say thanks! I just saved over $18 on a pair of Under Armour running shoes at Foot Locker tonight thanks to the generous 20% discount they offer through the [Veterans Advantage "VetRewards"] card. I’m now eating a great dinner with the money I saved.” – Mark Edwards.
  • “Best deal around for veterans & I’ve used the benefits often especially XM Radio” — Linda Benoit.
  • “I am thankful for my Veterans Advantage card; especially when travelling and at the pharmacy. It has paid for itself within the first 3 months I have had it.” — Richard C. Damm.
  • “This is a very wonderful and outstanding program that recognizes and should be utilized by all active duty military and veterans everywhere. Thank you VA for the acknowledgment of my dedicated service to this country.” — Author Frederick Murphy.
  • “Veterans Advantage and Scott are the greatest-love using it on Amtrak especially. Using it in September again to see my grandkids and saving $40.00 round trip.” — Anne Warren.
  • “Your last minute ticket deals are simply amazing.” — James Blair.
  • “Thanks to Veterans Advantage I can enjoy my reunions because of the discounts they provide.” — Mike Wallace.

September Marks Start of a Special Time for America

Thursday, September 1st, 2011

As we enter September, we are reminded of the service and sacrifice of those who have fought to preserve the important freedoms we enjoy today. For the next three months, from the 10th anniversary of 9/11/01 through Veterans Day this 11/11/11, we recognize all who serve or have served our country.

Our HeroVet is Rick Rescorla, a man who did everything in his power to prevent 9/11. As he saved the lives of 4800 employees from the World Trade Center, he gave his own in an heroic attempt to save those remaining. Read about other special Americans who have distinguished themselves since that fateful day.

If “memory is the seed of hope,” we must take the time to remember those awful events of 10 years ago, as difficult as it is to do so, recognizing the heroic acts, large and small, that defined our response and learn from them. We must rededicate ourselves to defending our country against terrorism. Importantly, we must thank those who have served and serve today, in tangible and important ways. How we do so defines us as a country. From 9/11 through Veterans Day, we remember and we rededicate ourselves.
