VetFamily: Harris Faulkner of FoxNews, Daughter of Vietnam Veteran

Tuesday, February 22nd, 2011

We hope you enjoy reading our VetFamily profile this month, Harris Faulkner of FoxNews. I first met Harris as a featured guest on her “Strategy Room” roundtable show for FoxNews on Veterans Day a couple of years back, and we’ve been in touch ever since.

Once we heard of all the support she’s received from our members over her inspiring story of her Army Vet dad (three Vietnam tours), we wanted to update you about his battle against a life threatening illness last year.  The good news is that he’s doing much better now!

Presidents Day Message: George Washington

Sunday, February 20th, 2011

As we enjoy the President’s Day Holiday weekend, we need to remind each other that it is more than a shopping holiday. General and President George Washington spoke these words in 1789:

“The willingness with which our young people are likely to serve in any war, no matter how justified, shall be directly proportional as to how they perceive the Veterans of earlier wars were treated and appreciated by their country.”

It’s hard to believe these words were written more than 200 years ago because they have such meaning today. We all know what Washington was saying. We must acknowledge and reward the service of our Veterans if we are to expect our young people to serve our country and to defend our freedoms.

The Government must do its part with public benefits. All of us as citizens must do our part in honoring and supporting Veterans. And America’s corporations need to do their part, too. The growing network of Veterans Advantage patriotic companies can take pride in “giving back to all who serve.” We encourage future partners to join us now in a national effort to thank all who serve.

We’re happy that Amtrak has once again extended a special points bonus for Veterans Advantage members who open an Amtrak Guest Rewards frequent traveler account.

Members need to visit Members Only for a special online link to execute the bonus points benefit.

And, don’t forget, those who served can also accumulate more points with a 15% Amtrak Veterans Advantage discount every day of the year after you open your Amtrak Guest Rewards account. This is a special combinable benefit for Veterans Advantage members who have served our country.

Veterans Advantage Members Get Access to Movie Reviews from Mayor Ed Koch

Saturday, February 5th, 2011

Just in time for Oscar season, I’m pleased to announce that we have a great addition to the Veterans Advantage Benefits Program: Fellow military veteran, and former New York City Mayor, Ed Koch is now the movie critic for Veterans Advantage. A self-confessed movie fanatic, His Honor will be offering his thoughts and reviews on new flicks on a weekly basis. Members can refer to the latest in Members Only.

I’ve known the Mayor for a long time, ever since he tapped me to co-chair the New York City Vietnam Veterans Memorial Commission in the 1980s, but I can also tell you he has a marvelous eye for movies, and for getting it right on the reviews. Be sure to read the Mayor’s reviews!

And for you movie fans, a reminder to mark your calendars for February 27 when the 83rd Annual Academy Awards will be broadcast.

And speaking of movies, visit our entertainment benefits section, and stock up on deeply discounted movie tickets – another special for your Veterans Advantage membership.

Black History Month: Profiling Harris Faulkner and Major General Frank Miller

Friday, February 4th, 2011

In recognition of Black history month, we have profiled two great Americans, Vet Family member and Fox News star commentator Harris Faulkner, whose Lt. Col Dad served proudly in Vietnam and Dell senior executive and Veterans Advantage Board member, Major General Frank Miller. Overcoming adversity and against the odds, they have risen to great accomplishment. We are proud to honor them.
