A HeroVet For Veterans Day: Vince McGowan

Vince McGowan has always been there for New York’s Veterans. In the 1990’s and throughout this decade, he marshaled significant resources and provided the leadership necessary to upgrade and maintain the New York City Vietnam Veterans Memorial and Plaza. He and his team insure that the memorial and Plaza, first commemorated by the New York City Vietnam Veterans Memorial Commission in 1985, are a place of honor for those who have served and sacrificed in Vietnam and their families. Along the way, Vince has become a positive and important force in New York City Veterans causes, serving as the Executive Director of the United War Veterans.

When we profiled him in 2003, Vince, Pat Gualtieri and their team were making the New York City Veterans Day Parade a truly memorable experience for fellow Veterans. Thanks to their efforts, the parade gets better every year! This year, for the first time, it will be televised, a testament to the support Vince has generated and the gratitude we express for our nation’s heroes. He told me yesterday:

It is the desire of the members of the United War Veteran’s Council and our great group of volunteers to show America that service is not a forgotten concept and that America stands by her service men & women. As our country’s longest military engagement continues to unfold in far off lands it is more important than ever that we remember the motto of the Vietnam Veteran’s of decades ago. “Never again will one generation of veterans abandon another.”

This year’s parade in New York is honoring the 60th Anniversary of the Korean War & the US Air Force. Veterans Advantage is proud to participate again with its own float.

Please join me in honoring my colleague and friend for his tireless and selfless work on behalf of our nation’s veterans. We are proud to join him and thousands of other Veterans on November 11.
