Veterans Advantage Field Reports and Reviews: Amtrak Discount For Veterans AdvantageFriday, October 15th, 2010
For those of you considering riding Amtrak with your Veterans Advantage Card, here’s a great field report from a loyal member:
Just used my Amtrak discount again this month and saved over 40.00 round trip. LA to East Texas. I paid only $226.00 round trip, [and] had a blast with other passengers. Three weeks with my grandkids and found some of the same passengers on the way back. Got real meals that cost no more than $23.00. Going to use it again for New Year’s at the same price. Glad Active Duty get the same discount. Wounded troops can travel easier: Restrooms are nearby, wheelchair ramps, meals delivered to them — must click on “reserved lower level seat” at the Web site or get denied and have to sit upstairs. Room for wheelchair passengers and disabled restroom within 15 feet. Need to schedule as soon as possible [3 days advance reservations for Veterans Advantage discount] and pick up tickets trip day or ASAP. Most train stations have ticket machine. Great deal for the Vet or Active Duty troop only, but plenty of other discounts and get Guest Rewards points too.
