Senior staff and Veterans Advantage board members joined me in hosting the Veterans Advantage table at the annual Wounded Warrior Project Awards dinner in New York City earlier this month. This event, hosted by NBC’s Bob Costas, seems to get better and better each year. WWP puts on a great show, as well makes sure many of its Alumni get to take part.

In a special silent auction, Lin and I won two Trek bikes, plus gear for us to participate in an upcoming WWP Soldier Ride this coming July from New York City to Long Island. Trek bikes are great. I only hope I can keep up with the WWP gang.

Country Music sensation Trace Adkins — best known for his hits “This Ain’t No Thinking Thing,” “Ladies Love Country Boys,” and “You’re Gonna Miss This,” among others — was one of the honorees and we had time to chat about our common love for the WWP.

By the way, some breaking news from Trace: According to his own Web site, the Daughters of the American revolution will also be honoring Trace Adkins for his patriotic and humanitarian works as well.

Lin and I enjoyed attending a local Connecticut Wounded Warrior Project fundraiser, and bumped into movie star Matthew Modine. Many of you remember him best, in uniform, as Private Joker in Stanley Kubrick’s 1987 film Full Metal Jacket.

We had a great time and the weather was perfect. We are also proud to announce we made a related scholarship donation of $2500 at the event, on behalf of Veterans Advantage to WWP’s TRACK program, a state-of-the art educational program set up to integrate wounded Veterans back to civilian life.

We also had fun hanging out with Al Giordano, Deputy Executive Director, and Nancy Schiliro, WWP benefits liaison.

Lin and I had the pleasure of meeting with USO Chief Executive Sloan Gibson and senior staff at the USO’s offices in Washington DC last week. We’ve always been big fans of the USO ever since 2005, when we extended free online access for guests at USO centers worldwide. Nowadays the USO mission is bigger than ever. Our cover story about Military Appreciation Month is just one example. Through its sponsorship of this week’s inaugural Warrior Games, for example, it’s increasing the offerings it brings to those who serve. Thank you, Sloan and the USO!
