This Week’s Member Newsletter: School and Family

Friday, August 21st, 2009

Active Veterans Advantage members are currently reading this week’s e-mail newsletter to learn more about partners and locations that accept the Veterans Advantage Card. For starters, as I mentioned in the blog last week, I replaced my office machine at a nearby Apple Store, showed my Veterans Advantage card and saved over $200! And we chose this week to salute a handful of other providers doing the same: Red Roof Inn, and T-Mobile, just to name a couple. Click their links on our newly designed Web site to learn more about what you get when you show your Veterans Advantage card.

Our editor’s special picks should make for interesting reading about all military families as well. For starters, our VetFamily profile this week reveals a very disciplined side to two-time Academy Award nominated actress Amy Adams, and how an ol’ fashioned Army brat upbringing has led her to her latest achievement, co-starring with Meryl Streep in this month’s hit “Julie and Julia.” Secondly, be sure to check out the report from our military disabilities expert, Dr. Barbara Van Dahlen, about how war-related Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) is affecting children returning to school this year.

Apple Computer Discounts – Great for Back to School, and Every Day Shopping, too!

Friday, August 14th, 2009

I recently went into upgrade mode for my office computer and found out I am in the same boat with many of you! I recently picked up the MacBook Air from the Westchester Mall’s own Apple Store, and after showing my Veterans Advantage card received a $108 discount. Apple then combined the Veterans Advantage discount with a printer for only $50 (after a $100 instant rebate on the spot), and a Veterans Advantage discount on its AppleCare warranty. In all, the VA card saved me well over $200.

The place was packed! One of the Apple sales associates on the floor told me they frequently have a line streaming out the door of the store.

Nonetheless, my kids were excited too, making many of the same back to school purchases as the mall shoppers I saw that day. The Apple products are beautifully designed, and user-friendly. They’re cool, no doubt about it. For the MacBook Air, my salesman said my Veterans Advantage deal was better than the Apple student discount, so if you are making purchases for the student in your household, make sure to compare! I encourage you to shop with our special Members Only Apple online shopping link or, do what I did, which is to simply present your Veterans Advantage membership card at any Apple Store today for great savings.

Not sure where your local Apple store is today? Click here for a growing list of locations in the states and around the world that are accepting the Veterans Advantage Card for discount today.

And if you want to become a member and get access to this instant online discount, too, click here.

Benefit Upgrade: Dollar and Thrifty Car Rentals

Wednesday, August 12th, 2009

I’m pleased to announce a benefit upgrade, a special program for Veterans Advantage members, in the hotly competitive car rental industry. After meeting with executives of Dollar Rent a Car and Thrifty Car Rental at my offices late last month, two great guys, they agreed to enhance their partnership with us.

In addition to our discount relationship, each program now includes downloadable coupons (limit one per rental) for a free upgrade day and free GPS system day. This already is combined with the waivers on additional drivers and underage drivers included with our offer for Dollar, further bolstering the unique quality of the car rental benefit for Veterans Advantage with a range of discounted travel options.

As a further demonstration of our exclusive partnership, Veterans Advantage is the only outside company listed in the “Government Programs” area of both dollar.com and thrifty.com:

Dollar.com: Here.

Thrifty.com: Here.

Thank you Dollar/Thrifty!
