Looking At 2008 with Pride and Forward to 2009 with Hope

Saturday, December 20th, 2008

At this time of year, our thoughts turn to those who serve in Iraq and Afghanistan. We thank them and their families from the bottom of our hearts. We are deeply grateful for their service and sacrifice. Please include your prayers with ours that each one returns home safely.

As you know, your membership supports and makes possible our charitable activities. Thank you. We are rounding out our second deployment of complimentary Veterans Advantage memberships cards to those serving in and around Iraq and Afghanistan, nearly 70,000 this holiday season. That brings us to a total of 300,000 this year. See a full listing of our charitable activities here.

From all of us at Veterans Advantage, we wish you the very best of health and happiness over the holidays and throughout the New Year.

We Honor Two Very Special Veterans

Tuesday, December 16th, 2008

New York CityWe had the pleasure visiting New York City earlier this month to pay visits to two very influential people in the Veterans community, and thank them for their service in uniform and beyond.

Our first visit included the New York City Commissioner of Veterans’ Affairs, Roger Newman (USAF), and his special deputy Clarice Joynes (USMC). We stopped by to drop off our “TopVet” award to Clarice for her tireless efforts to bring much-needed support and benefits to the city’s estimated 250,000 Veterans.

Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of AmericaAfter lunch, we visited the offices of the Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America (IAVA), and its Founder and Executive Director Paul Rieckoff. We honored Paul with our “HeroVet” award for his efforts with the historic passage of the new GI Bill benefits during the summer.

We appreciate the service of both organizations to our nation’s Veterans.

Hats Off To Continental Airlines

Thursday, December 4th, 2008

We are proud to see that Continental Airlines, which has been gracious enough to offer special discounts for Veterans Advantage members, continues to win industry acclaim. Continental announced last week that it has been named the Best Large Domestic Airline for Premium Class in Zagat’s 2008 Airline Survey. In addition, Continental was named the Best Value for the Money (International) among all airlines.

Since 2004, Veterans Advantage members have been able to get 5% discounts on Continental Airlines bookings placed on Continental.com using their Veterans Advantage travel discount code. Members of Continental’s OnePass frequent flier program love the offer, too, because this special discount allows them to accumulate OnePass points with their travel. More Continental discounts here.
